the Job Title: Controller

Job Summary:
The Controller at Stillman College plays a vital role in managing the financial aspects of the College. The Controller is primarily responsible for financial management, reporting, and compliance.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains the accountants (Grant Accountant and Senior Accountant).
· Oversees all Accounting functions and reporting.
· Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations for accounting staff.
· Handles discipline and termination of accounting staff in accordance with company policy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Financial Reporting: Prepare and oversee the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations, such as GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
· Budget Management: Responsible for ensuring accurate entry of the College budget on all division/departmental accounts. Manage and monitor the institution’s budget, working closely with departments to align financial goals with strategic objectives. Analyze budget variances and provide recommendations for adjustments as needed.
· Financial Planning: Assist in long-term financial planning and forecasting to support the college’s financial stability and growth.
· Collaborate with VP of Finance and Administration to develop financial strategies and policies.
· Financial Operations: Oversee day-to-day operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities. Ensure College GL bank account balances match the bank statements.
· Risk Management: Assist with implementation and management of internal controls and risk management strategies to safeguard the institution’s financial assets. Identify potential risks and work to mitigate them.
· Reporting and Documentation: Prepare and submit required financial reports to regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, and stakeholders. Review and verify the accuracy of financial reports prepared by accounting staff.

· Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
· Strong communication skills.
· Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
· Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting along with relevant financial management experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and tax regulations is highly preferred.
